"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," Holder said.
( Ah, Mr. Holder... maybe you and other race baiter's 'continue to be essentially a coward in things racial', BUT YOU DO NOT Speak for the average citizen, who is willing to judge a person by the content of character rather than by the color of ones skin.)
Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, but "we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race."
( Please, Mr. Holder, DO NOT insult we average citizens by including yourself in the same category with ones who will not talk openly of race issues. You are SO out of touch with the common citizen.)
Holder's speech echoed President Barack Obama's landmark address last year on race relations during the hotly contested Democratic primaries, when the then-candidate urged the nation to break "a racial stalemate we've been stuck in for years" and bemoaned the "chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races." Obama delivered the speech to try to distance himself from the angry rhetoric of his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Holder cited that speech by Obama as part of the motivation for his words Wednesday, saying Americans need to overcome an ingrained inhibition against talking about race.
( Mr. Holder...I suggest you find some better mentors; ones who have a clearer track record in regards to race, BHO would not be one I'd recommend. Remember, Mr. Holder, he has denied the 'white' part of himself since around the age of 12 or 13... Plus there's the nagging issue of whether or not BHO ever heard his Pastor Da**ing America and sitting in a church pew 2-3 times per month for 20+ years under these teachings may make one skeptical...)
"If we're going to ever make progress, we're going to have to have the guts, we have to have the determination, to be honest with each other. It also means we have to be able to accept criticism where that is justified," Holder told reporters after the speech.
Holder urged people of all races to use Black History Month as a chance for honest discussion of racial matters, including issues of health care, education and economic disparities.
( Mr. Holder, sounds like you've finally had the guts to show us who you really are.....you had a difficult time doing that during your nomination hearings, you just spoke in circles. Talk about getting honest, how about we meet for a round table discussion....Would you ever take an average citizen up on that offer?)
( Would you really like to open the 'can of worms' in regards to health care, education, and economic disparities and the like? You'd better be ready to hear the truth, and it ain't pretty!)

Okay, I'd say that was honest.....not Politically Correct, but honest!!!
